Veterinary Disclaimer
1. Informational and educational only
NatBuddy is an informational and educational app for dog owners. Its recipes, portion estimates, nutrition counter, photo health scans, product scanner, and the Charlie AI companion are provided to help you learn about canine nutrition and make more informed choices. They are not veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and they do not establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. Always consult your veterinarian for decisions about your dog's diet and health.
2. Not a substitute for your veterinarian
No app can examine your dog, run laboratory tests, or know your dog's full medical history the way your veterinarian can. Portions shown in NatBuddy are formula-based estimates calculated from the profile information you enter — breed, weight, age, activity level, and any health flags. They are a starting point, not a prescription, and they can be wrong if the profile is incomplete or out of date. Your veterinarian can review and adjust any plan for your individual dog. Nothing in NatBuddy should be used to delay, replace, or override professional veterinary care.
3. When to consult your veterinarian
We strongly recommend talking with your veterinarian before changing your dog's diet, and especially in these situations:
- Puppies and dogs still growing, where nutrient balance is critical.
- Pregnant or nursing dogs, who have specialized nutritional needs.
- Working, sporting, or highly active dogs with elevated energy requirements.
- Dogs that are ill, recovering, or living with a diagnosed health condition.
- Dogs taking medication or on a veterinarian-prescribed therapeutic diet.
- Any sudden change in weight, appetite, energy, digestion, or behavior.
Your veterinarian can confirm whether a recipe, portion, or product is appropriate for your dog's specific needs.
4. Emergencies and suspected toxins
NatBuddy is not an emergency service and cannot help in an urgent situation. If you believe your dog is having a medical emergency or has eaten something harmful, contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency animal hospital immediately. For suspected poisoning, you can also reach a 24/7 animal poison control line:
- ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center — a 24-hour service for suspected pet poisoning (a consultation fee may apply).
- Pet Poison Helpline — a 24-hour animal poison control service (a consultation fee may apply).
Do not wait for the app when your dog may be in danger.
5. Limits of the scanner and photo scans
The product scanner relies in part on third-party product databases and label data that may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate, so a result may not reflect the exact product in your hand. Its guidance uses cautious, plain language — such as "generally suitable," "some ingredients to consider," or "consider alternatives" — and is not a definitive judgment about safety. The photo health scan is a visual, non-diagnostic check that produces a Health Report Card to highlight things worth a closer look; it is not a medical exam and cannot detect every condition. Treat all of these as starting points for a conversation with your veterinarian, not as conclusions you act on alone.
